  2. everybody and everything. The mark of our time is its revulsion 
  3. against imposed patterns. We are suddenly eager to have 
  4. things and people declare their beings totally. There is a deep 
  5. faith to be found in this new attitude‚Äîa faith that concerns 
  6. the ultimate harmony of all being. Such is the faith in which 
  7. this book has been written. It explores the contours of our own 
  8. extended beings in our technologies, seeking the principle of 
  9. intelligibility in each of them. In the full confidence that it is 
  10. possible to win an understanding of these forms that will bring 
  11. them into orderly service, I have looked at them anew, 
  12. accepting very little of the conventional wisdom concerning 
  13. them. One can say of media as Robert Theobald has said of 
  14. economic depressions: ‚ÄúThere is one additional factor that has 
  15. helped to control depressions, and that is a better
